RCADS was formed way back in the time
when fags were cheap and booze was strong. In the quiet, serene, The
Weakest Link-less evenings, there wasn't much to do apart from collect your
stamps, spot your trains, fancy your pigeons and that sort of thing, and so a
few rebellious and rather boisterous adults decided to get together and play at
make believe.
The usual games of
cowboys and indians, cops and robbers and doctors and nurses soon developed into
something much more sinister and nefarious. They developed a rather high
opinion of themselves and of their abilities to 'pretend'. They discovered
AMATEUR DRAMATICS!!!!
The first few attempts
ended predictably in tears with a veritable cornucopia of dollies being thrown
out of the pram with alarming regularity and speed. Some people left the
group, some people joined the group, some people left, re-joined and then left
again just to prove a point. However as time went on things got better,
and much fun and amusement was provided for the local residents of Rowlands
Castle.
The group has
now been running for 27 years and have put on an average of two main
performances a year, plus a Summer Cheese and Wine evening. Needless to
say, the group will endeavor to continue for another 27 years, provided the
members don't turn professional or go insane and all leave at the same time.
